Kuala Lumpur, 16 December 2024: Paramount Property “took to the streets” early Sunday morning yesterday to encourage Klang Valley folk to enjoy Kuala Lumpur’s car-free roads.
Some 2,000 people, young and old, including those on bicycles, wheelchairs and in prams, or on rollerblades, flooded the city centre at the Kuala Lumpur Car Free Morning (KLCFM) from as early as 6.30am. KLCFM which is a weekly event also hosted the Zakat X Wakaf Run yesterday.
Participants could walk or run or go on their non-motorised vehicles on either the 5-km or 7-km routes, or just go multiple rounds on a smaller route. Yesterday’s events also saw people going on horse carriages.
Paramount Corporation Berhad Group CEO Jeffrey Chew together with Kuala Lumpur City Council (DBKL) Director for Culture, Arts and Tourism and Sports Naquib bin Hamdan flagged off the Kuala Lumpur Car Free Morning at Dataran DBKL on the morning of 15 December 2024. The car free event whose main sponsor is OCBC is an initiative of Kuala Lumpur Low Carbon Community 2030 that promotes green and healthy living. Chew also gave out lucky draw prizes at the non-competitive event.
Chew said, “Paramount is committed to lowering its carbon footprint and has developed a preliminary Climate Transition Pathway towards net zero emissions by 2050. We have also integrated our financial KPIs with operational KPIs to ensure that everyone is on board.”
“This is our second outing, and we have seen how people enjoy themselves. We hope that our Paramount X KLCFM initiative will encourage more people to enjoy KL in a green and healthy manner, have fun as a community, and inspire more people to lower their individual carbon footprint in terms of consumption habits and energy use,” he said.
